Tusculum College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and master's degrees. MISSION STATEMENT

Tusculum College provides a liberal arts education in a Judeo-Christian and civic arts environment.

VISION

Tusculum College will be known throughout the mid-South for its adherence to Judeo-Christian values, its allegiance to the liberal arts and its avenues for career preparation and civic engagement, all delivered through innovative course structures and personal attention from outstanding faculty.

PURPOSES

Mindful of our Presbyterian heritage and commitment to the civic republican tradition, we seek to educate men and women to act morally, think reflectively, write and speak articulately and serve honorably. We strive to perpetuate the free societies of the world by teaching the tenets of the civic arts, including the role of not-for-profit service, the history and foundations of democratic governance and the fundamentals of a virtuous free enterprise system.

HISTORY

Founded in 1794 Founded in 1794, Tusculum College is the oldest college in Tennessee, the twenty-eighth oldest college in the nation, and the oldest coeducational institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The wooded 140-acre Tusculum College campus has eight buildings and the Tusculum Arch that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

LOCATION

Located in Greeneville, Tennessee, Tusculum College lies in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The city of Greeneville and Greene County have a combined population of over 65,000. Tusculum also maintains offices in Knoxville, Tennessee, for its Graduate and Professional Studies Program, in addition to other class sites across East Tennessee.

DRIVING DISTANCES

Thirty minutes to Johnson City, TN and Morristown, TN / One hour to Knoxville, TN, Bristol, TN/VA, and Asheville, NC / Four hours to Nashville, TN, and Atlanta, GA / Twelve hours to New York City, NY, and Orlando, FL.   See Tusculum College on a map.

DISTINCTION

Listed in the Templeton Foundation's 'Guide to Character Building Colleges'; selected by the Carnegie Foundation as a model institution for education that encourages effective citizenship; one of three colleges in the country to operate on a focused calendar, in which courses are scheduled one at a time; in 1994, embarked upon third century of producing educated, effective citizens.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Focused calendar. Students take one course at a time, also known as a "block", with 8 blocks offered in the academic calendar (4 per semester). Each course lasts 3 and one-half weeks, followed by a four day break. During summer, three optional blocks are offered to interested students.

ATHLETICS

Tusculum College competes in the South Atlantic Conference of the NCAA Division II. Tusculum fields 14 varsity sports teams, including: Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, and Volleyball. Tusculum also offers 8 intramural sports tournaments during the academic year.

CLUBS & ORAGANIZATIONS

The College offers over 20 clubs and organizations for its students to participate in. Clubs range from those as diverse as the Student Government Association (SGA) to Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and WTPL, the campus radio station.

HOUSING

Tusculum College offers students a choice of 10 residence halls. Each hall boasts a paraprofessional staff which includes a hall advisor and resident assistants that are available to assist with the needs of residents. Halls include: Katherine Hall, Welty-Craig Hall, Haynes Hall, the Charles Oliver Gray complex (consisting of C.O.G. South, East, and West), and four apartment-style residence halls, which opened in Fall of 2002.
